Can my children be involved if they are not in the IET Formula 24, 11 – 16 age range?
The Greenpower race events cover 9 – 25 year olds, we are focussing on IET Formula 24 race category that spans ages 11 – 16. The age range proposed is for the core race team. If your child is over the age of 16 we would love for them to be a mentor and come along to the weekend workshop sessions. If your child is under 11 they can also come along to the weekend workshop sessions, however, we ask that they are accompanied by an adult at all times.
What is the time commitment expected to support this project?
Weekly meets on a Sunday from September ’21 through to October ’22. The race season runs between March ’22 and October ’22. Our plan for September is to start with the new School year and get the project moving for commencement of the race season.
Do I need to have technical background or be an engineer to support?
If you have a passion to help then please get in touch. We need a mix of skills to run this project. If you have a flair for creativity then you can help with our marketing campaigns. If you to want to gain some skills and experience personally and be part of a community project then please consider joining.
Does it cost anything to participate?
HF24 is a ‘not for profit educational enterprise’ that just needs to cover it’s costs, which we seek to realise through sponsorship.
The workshop space and tooling have kindly been offered from a volunteer. The Kit Car and associated bodywork materials will be purchased using sponsorship funds. Each race is £80.00, which will be split by the race team members. We plan to purchase a set of Race overalls. We think in the interest of hygiene and following the COVID-19 pandemic that individuals seek to bring their own race helmets and race gloves.
Do you have insurance and first aiders if anything happens?
The Community Project has Public Liability Insurance.
Several of the volunteers are first aiders. A first aid kit is located at the Workshop and a second kit will be taken to race days with The Kit car.
What happens to the car after this race year?
We hope the Community Project will continue and The Kit Car will be used for future volunteers and Young Engineers to build upon.
We currently plan to photograph and strip the car at the end of each season so that the following year group start fresh without preconceived ideas as to how the car should be designed and built. We think it would be beneficial that each year the car would be built from scratch so that any new Young Engineers joining the project are involved in the ‘whole construction’ every year.
